Reality Bites: Triple H

Let’s get this out of the way first. You and I are going to die someday, and there’s no way of knowing when it will happen.
I thought most people were at least cognizant of the fact that there will come a day when they’re no longer here. But I learned the lesson that I was wrong in the strangest place. It appears that most people tend to either ignore it or choose not to acknowledge the fact that we are finite beings who will die.
In the words of a sermon from Pastor Jason Strand of Eagle Brook Church, “Even if you don’t want to deal with it, that doesn’t change the reality.”

Let me give you a little background. Longtime Hall of Fame professional wrestler Triple H (real name is Paul Levesque) had to retire from in-ring competition due to heart failure. He was legitimately close to death during the incident but was successfully treated.
This guy has it all. Fame. Money. A beautiful wife (he married the boss’s daughter, but that’s another story entirely) and an incredible home. Paul was always into fitness and excelled in the gym with a physique most people would kill to have. He worked hard.
Then came the heart attack. I came across an audio clip of Triple H being interviewed by Stephanie, his wife, who has her own YouTube show on which she interviews people about overcoming obstacles. What took me aback was the surprise in his voice when Paul realized everything he had could disappear in a moment. Here’s the video clip I found on YouTube.
I’ve been trying to wrap my head around the shock in his voice that someday he won’t be here anymore. Everything that he has worked so hard to build will be left behind. What’s the old saying? “You can’t take it with you.”
I faced my mortality much earlier in life. A congenital heart defect got so bad that it could have legitimately killed me in my mid-teens. As you can probably imagine, it was hard to live with that as a young person.
However, the funny thing about it? I’m glad it happened. That seems so strange to say, but it’s true. It forced me to look at what happens when we are gone.
Did you hear what Triple H said? “In a weird way, I’m glad it happened because it changed my perspective. Don’t take all the B.S. so seriously anymore. Life is bleeping fleeting.”
Psalm 144:4 says, “Man is like a breath, and his days are like a passing shadow.”

That’s another way of saying life is fleeting. After all, how long does a “passing shadow” last? I’m praying you’ll read this and start thinking about it yourself. “Where will I wind up?”
I think we’ve established that life is fleeting. Let me ask you this: if you died tomorrow, where would you wind up? How would you respond if God looked at you and said, “Why should I let you into Heaven?”
Some would say, “Because I’m a good person.” However, it doesn’t work that way at all, and you’d be on your way to the one place you do not want to wind up: Hell. For eternity.
Jesus Himself said, “I am THE Way, THE Truth, and THE Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Do you have a relationship with Jesus? What’s holding you back? History shows solid evidence that a man named Jesus walked the Earth over 2,000 years ago and claimed to be the Son of God and the Way to Heaven. What if He was right? Shouldn’t you at least look into it?
All it takes is a prayer that goes something like this: “Dear Jesus, I confess I’m a sinner and not worthy of going to Heaven on my own. I receive the free gift of salvation that you provided when you died on the Cross. Come into my life and be my Lord and Savior every day till I’m called home. Teach me how to live for you and honor you every day of my life.”
That’s all it takes! Remember, Jesus loves you so much that He’d have gone to the Cross if you were the only person on Earth. What have you got to lose by looking into it? You have nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain!
Romans 10:9 – “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
That is Good News!
